Informance Information Please see the K-5 Calendar page Instruments, Band, Orchestra! I am often asked when students will have the opportunity to learn to play an instrument or join a performance ensemble, such as orchestra or band. The short answer is 6th grade. Mr. Luukkonen teaches three orchestras this year (6th grade, 7th grade and 8th-12th grade) in addition to his middle school general music classes. The orchestras include strings (violin, viola, cello, bass), woodwinds (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone), brass (trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba), and percussion (drums, bells, accessory percussion.) Previous experience is not required. Most students will be expected to rent or purchase an instrument. Students will be given more information about this opportunity at the end of their 5th grade year. Students in grades 1 through 5 with previous experience playing violin, viola, cello or bass may join the Lower School String Ensemble (see below.) Our K-5 music classes include the use of boomwhackers and accessory percussion as well as singing, reading and writing rhythms and pitches on the treble clef, which gives them a solid starting point for any future instrumental instruction. For more information on finding a private lesson teacher, summer music camps or youth ensembles, please see the link below or under the "Home" title. Lower School Extra-Curricular Opportunity Eagle Ridge Academy’s Lower School offers an after-school String Ensemble!
