High School Choir 2011-2012 Teacher: Mrs. Sarah Nimchuk E-mail: snimchuk@eagleridgeacademy.org Website: http://music.nimchuk.com/ Description: High School Choir is a performance-based class designed to strengthen vocal development and poise while offering a vocal performance outlet. Organization: Classes may include music theory and history as well as vocal and aural development. The main strategies used will be direct instruction and group rehearsal. Course Objectives and Topics: Over the course of the semester, students will participate in two or three performances (dates to be determined). The repertoire varies based on the event and voicing of the current ensemble. Grading: Quarter grading will be weighted as follows: Rehearsal Participation 50% Performance Participation 50% Participation points will be earned daily and recorded on Infinite Campus weekly. Both participation in rehearsals and performances will be graded as follows: + = 10/10 (Exceptional participation and preparedness)0 = 8/10 (Meeting expectations for participation and preparedness) - = 6/10 (Not meeting expectations or causing minor distractions) x = 0/10 (Not meeting expectations and distracting others from the educational process) Grades will be assigned according to the following percentage points: 93%-100% = A 73%-76% = C 90%-92% = A- 70%-72% = C- 87%-89% = B+ 67%-69% = D+ 83%-86% = B 63%-66% = D 80%-82% = B- 60%-62% = D- 77%-79% = C+ 59% and lower = F Performances: Thursday, November 10: Veteran’s Day Assemblies (during the school day) Thursday, December 1: Fall Concert, 6:00pm call time, 7:00pm performance Thursday, February 9: Winter Concert, 6:00pm call time, 7:00pm performance Thursday, May 17: Spring Concert, 6:00pm call time, 7:00pm performance Friday, June 8: Commencement Ceremony, exact times TBD. Participation in performances is very important; if you are not in formal dress uniform, are late or absent, it negatively affects everyone involved and will also negatively affect your grade.
