K-5 Expectations

In music class, I know that every student can be a STAR! So each class students earn a + (E/A/10 points) if I see that they:

Sing while sitting or standing tall (good for singing and health)

Track the speaker (helps students pay attention)

Ask and answer questions like a scholar (using complete sentences and giving correct answers earns a +)

Respect yourself and others (helps everyone do their job and feel good)

If a student is specifically not being a STAR, they will earn a - (P/D-/6 points). Students receive frequent reminders and are given warnings if they may receive a - based on their current behavior.

Students who do not earn a + or a - receive an M/B-/8 points.

There are 13-15 music classes in each quarter, so if a student earns a + about half of the time, they will earn an E/A. Students who have earned a P/D- can quickly turn their grade into an M/B- by having just as many E/A classes.

Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 are also expected to be prepared with their recorders. Currently, 3rd graders need recorders on Wednesday or Thursday, 4th graders need recorders on Tuesdays and 5th graders need recorders on Wednesdays.

Occasionally, students will be given assignments and they are graded based on Eagle Ridge Academy's grading scale and policies.

Students may also complete assessments during class, which will be reflected in their weekly participation grade.

Please remember that grades are not as important as your experience in music class. My main goal is for you to enjoy music and appreciate it as an art form!
